Love God. Love people. Love the world. In other words, ministry!

Love the World

Our love for the world is expressed in everything we do.
Specific ministries that express love for the world outside our doors include:

  • Community Meal/Beneficent Banquet

Every last Sunday of the month we cook, host and enjoy a Community Meal, open to all and free to all. We are a part of wider efforts to address food insecurity in our region.

We fund our free Community Meal through a series of chef-led cooking/dining events called Beneficent Banquets. Paying guests come and prepare a selected menu along with a local chef, exploring new cuisines or learning new techniques. Guests are then treated to a sit down meal of their own creation, with volunteers serving and cleaning up.

  • Giving

KCC is a generous congregation! We dedicate thousands of dollars of our annual budget to direct giving to local and international partners working to alleviate hunger, build affordable shelter, fight injustice, wage peace, heal bodies, minds and spirits. We take three special offerings (beyond our budget): Blanket Sunday and One Great Hour of Sharing, that support Church World Service, and a Christmas offering that is directed to local, regional and international agencies working to alleviate human suffering. We regularly sponsor food drives, clothing drives, gift card drives to support local partners.

In 2023 we were awarded the Church World Service Legacy Congregation award for having contributed over $100,000, one of only a handful of congregations in the country.

  • Habitat for Humanity

Once or twice a year, we gather a team to support a local Habitat build.

  • The Witness Stones Project

In an effort to join the worldwide movement of people and organizations seeking to be honest with ourselves and tell a more accurate story of the role of race in our history and society, in 2023 Kingston Congregational Church embarked on a partnership with the Witness Stones Project, Inc. to research and install the first Witness Stones in Rhode Island. We were joined by a learning community at The Compass School, and together we researched and memorialized two enslaved members of the Kingston community, Cuffee and Sylvie Torrey.

  • Community Groups

KCC is home to Scout troops, recovery groups and other community events. Every day of the week, someone or some group is using some part of our building to build community, promote healing and recovery or share knowledge. We see ourselves as a hub of community life, supporting and encouraging the good work of groups and agencies far beyond our own.
