Adults, youth and children are constantly learning and growing in their love and understanding of God. “Formation” is an old word for the activities and experiences that shape us as Christian disciples.
ACES (Adult Christian Education and Spirituality):
Throughout the year we offer multiple ways for adults of all ages to grow in faith. A weekly (online) Bible Study discusses the scriptures for the coming Sunday. Monday night groups read a book or engage in a practice or topic together to deepen their faith. Topics have ranged from Contemplative Prayer, to Indigenous History/Doctrine of Discovery, to Racial Reconciliation/Repair, to the Life of Jesus, to Environmental Stewardship/Theology.
Youth
Youth need time and space to gather with their peers and explore their faith. We offer a joint youth group with Peace Dale Congregational Church that focuses on service projects and friendship building. Our Director of Faith Formation coordinates with colleagues at PDCC to organize (almost) monthly events. Contact our Director of Faith Formation for upcoming events.
Confirmation, a six-month program of exploration of the Christian faith [usually October-April], is offered every other year to 9th/10th graders who meet twice a month with adult leaders and mentors to more deeply understand their own faith and the Christian tradition, inviting and preparing them to “confirm” their baptism at a special Sunday service in the spring.
Children
Every Sunday the kids of KCC are warmly welcomed and affirmed as important and beloved members of our community. They participate in worship AND are offered special, age-appropriate times and places to nurture their own faith separately. Our Director of Faith Formation oversees our Sunday children’s programs, including a “Pray Space” in the sanctuary where younger worshippers can enjoy worship and hands-on activities related to the season or Sunday theme and Children’s Church, special time in a separate space to explore faith at their speed and in their style.
